FAQ
How is saliva collected using the Salivette?
In order to collect a saliva sample, the Salivette simply has to be opened, the swab removed and placed in the mouth. After 45 seconds (gentle chewing possible, but not required), the saliva-soaked swab can be returned to the Salivette which is then closed with the plug for storage and transport.
Why should the Salivette be used for saliva collection?
Sample collection with the Salivette is hygienic and easy. The Salivette provides reliable and accurate results, even with a small volume of saliva and very low analyte concentrations.
For which patients is the Salivette suitable?
The Salivette is particularly suitable for hygienic saliva collection for diagnostics and therapy monitoring in adults. As the swab is a small part that can be swallowed, it is not recommended for use in children under three years.
How should a saliva sample be stored if it cannot be analysed directly after collection?
The saliva sample should be kept cool after collection (in a refrigerator) or frozen, depending on the parameters.
How much saliva can be collected using the Salivette?
The normal saliva volume yield is between 0.8 and 1.4 ml.
What do the different Salivette cap colours mean?
Opaque white: Salivette with cotton swab without preparation (REF 51.1534)
What centrifugation conditions are generally recommended for the Salivette?
Centrifugation at 1,000 x g for 2 min. at 20°C is recommended.
Why does the Salivette have to be centrifuged?
Centrifugation transfers the clear saliva from the swab into the conical tube. Any particles are collected in the specially designed tip of the Salivette tube.
